Hot Tips to Keep Your Water Heater Happy

Check for Leaking Faucets

Leaky faucets can waste many gallons of hot water a month and put a drain (pun intended) on your water heater. If you would like to repair the leaking faucet yourself, you first need to know what type of faucet you have. Once you know the type of faucet you have, you will find that this is where YouTube comes in handy. If you have a cartridge type faucet, you might want to watch this video from Ask This Old House. If you have a compression washer type of faucet, Ask This Old House comes to the rescue again. Finally, if you have a ball-type faucet, here’s another helpful video.

Change to Low Flow Shower Heads

Older shower heads can use a wasteful 6 to 10 gallons of hot water per minute!! Fortunately, shower heads today are better at saving your water heater by being able to provide a comfortable shower with only 2.2 gallons of water a minute, therefore, if you still have an older shower head, consider changing to a low flow shower head and save hot water AND unnecessary wear and tear on your water heater.

Meteorologist Mike Caplan Joined Tony on Going Home with Tony

On Thursday August 13th, Going Home with Tony radio show host and President of Hot Water 911 Tony Scimeca welcomed Facebook’s meteorologist Mike Caplan to the traveling Hot Water 911 Boiler Room Studio. Tony and co-host Claudia chatted with Mike and Laura Caplan in the beautiful confines of Base Camp Door County coffee shop. And we added a new twist to our radio show…we did a video of the show with a GoPro Hero 4 camera so that we can now SHOW you just how much fun we had.
